The BMW CCA New Mexico Chapter Scenic Drive on Saturday, October 18, 2025 was a wonderful day filled with stunning scenery, good company, and vibrant autumn colors. Eighteen people in ten cars joined us for the drive, which began at the Nambé Travel Center at 9 a.m. From there, we headed west on NM-502 and then south on NM-4, winding through mountain and canyon landscapes that were truly spectacular this time of year.

The golden yellows of the aspens around the Valles Caldera were breathtaking, and the bright cottonwoods farther south added even more warmth and color to the views. We drove by the Valles Caldera Overlook, taking in the wide-open beauty of the high mountain meadow as we continued along the route. A short stop at the San Diego Canyon Overlook gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and enjoy another view of the surrounding landscape and valley below.

Lunch at Los Ojos Restaurant & Saloon in Jemez Springs was a relaxing and enjoyable break before visiting the Jemez Historic Site. The highlight there was seeing the beautifully refurbished Kiva—still in use by the Jemez Pueblo—which gave everyone a deeper appreciation for the area’s rich cultural history.

Our final stop was at Ponderosa Winery, where owner Mary Street was a gracious hostess. She guided us through several vintages of their wines and shared the story behind the small, award-winning vineyard. It was a delightful and informative tasting experience that perfectly capped off a day filled with natural beauty, history, and great camaraderie.
