Drive 4 Corners was started about 12 years ago for BMW CCA members from Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico to meet each other with a group drive aimed to be a laid back weekend focused on driving mountain roads and exploring the region with other enthusiasts. Texas chapters were also represented. In the past there were members from California and other parts of the country.

On August 26 – August 28, 2022, a number of BMW CCA New Mexico Chapter members made the journey to Durango, Colorado for the 2022 D4C event. Phil Undercuffler, Rob and Christina Anthony, and I met at 9 am in Santa Fe to take the back roads up to Navajo Lake to meet up with Jason Collin and Jessica Troy. Of course it had to start raining during our drive. Phil, with his Z3 top down, kept pushing on. The rain finally cleared so we were able to make up some lost time.

We made a quick stop just north of Abiquiu to view the Echo Amphitheater. We then headed north thru Chama and on to the Navajo Lake dam. We all made it to the Navajo Lake Marina without incident and had a nice lunch. Then thru Ignacio, connecting to 160 then 550 to Durango. We met at the designated check-in point Friday at 5:30 pm to meet members from the other states and of course look at their cars. We split up for dinner as no restaurant could take 50+ people.

Saturday morning we all met at the LaPlata Fairgrounds for pics and more chatting.  We then decided which of the routes we were going to drive: The long drive over Wolf Creek Pass to Creede, ending up at Freemon’s General Store for lunch; The medium drive to Riff Raff on the Rio in Pagosa Springs; Or the short drive to Silverton, ending up at Handlebars for lunch. Phil and I, along with 7 others drove to Freemon’s in Creede for lunch..
After lunch I needed to head for home while the others decided to extend the drive by heading up 149 thru Lake City and eventually connecting to US50 West. In Montrose they headed south on 550 thru Ouray, Silverton, and back to Durango. Saturday at 7:30 PM everyone met back in Durango for ice cream/root beer floats. Sunday morning meet was at PJ’s Gourmet Market for coffee and time to say goodbye to new friends.
