DESCRIPTION:Join the BMW Car Club of America New Mexico Chapter for a Tech Session at Hans Wittler’s Automotive Northside (5701 Wilshire Ave NE in Albuquerque) on Thursday evening\, November 9\, 2023 at 6 pm (originally scheduled for September 21st).  Andreas Wittler will be talking about using the factory ISTA software for diagnosing BMW cars. He will have several different real world examples of what it takes to diagnose these complex electrical systems. Andreas will also give a talk about the new electric vehicles that are coming down the pipe line. Pizza will be provided by the NM Chapter. \nHans Wittler and his wife Christel immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1958 to start a new life. While Hans was a factory trained technician\, he found the dealership way of business was not to his standards. So in 1975\, Hans and Christel opened Hans Wittler Automotive and offered high quality service for German automobiles in Albuquerque. \nOver the years\, Hans’ two sons\, Roger and Andreas worked with their father to learn the ins and outs of German engineering and eventually took over the business in 1999. The business continued to grow and needed additional space. In 2019 Hans Wittler Automotive opened a second location on the north side of town to better service its expanding list of customers. Today\, it continues to be a family-run business as Roger oversees the Eastside Elizabeth location (Near I-40 and Juan Tabo) while Andreas manages the Northside Wilshire location (Near I-25 and Alameda).

The Cafe is located about 17 miles south of Las Cruces at 16145 NM 28. \nNamed for José “Chope” Benavides\, the son of original proprietors Longina and Margarito Benavides\, the restaurant was established in 1915 when Longina opened her home to sell enchiladas to local residents. Son José\, who took over the restaurant in the 1940s\, was nicknamed Chope by his father because he constantly wore chopos (overalls). Chope’s has been placed in the New Mexico Register of Cultural Properties and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We will experience the Devil’s Highway on the New Mexico/Arizona border on Saturday\, October 14 before returning home on Sunday.  \n\nThis year’s annual New Mexico Chapter Karl Fox Memorial Fall Tour in October will feature an exciting collaboration with the BMW CCA Roadrunner Chapter of Arizona! Join us Friday\, October 13 to Sunday\, October 15\, 2023 as we travel to the New Mexico/Arizona border to experience the Devil’s Highway. Register today. Though the Route 666 name has officially been extinct for 20 years\, the legend lives on along the hundreds of sharp curves comprising the Devil’s Highway!  \nThe New Mexico Chapter caravan will meet at the parking lot of the Walmart in Socorro\, 700 6th Street\, at 1:30 PM on Friday\, October 13. We will plan to arrive in Alpine\, AZ\, our basecamp for the weekend\, in time for dinner at the Alpine Grill & Still. \nMake your lodging reservations for Alpine soon\, as availability is limited! To keep our group together\, our recommended lodging spot is The Aspen Lodge. Call 1-866-32-ASPEN (1-866-322-7736) to reserve accommodations. Be aware there is a short section of well-maintained unpaved road to reach the Lodge.  \nWe will meet up with the Roadrunner Chapter on Saturday morning for a 9:45 AM departure from the Escudilla Mountain Cabins in Alpine. We will drive the Devil’s Highway Loop once\, clockwise\, starting in Alpine and winding our way east into New Mexico (Hwy 180). We will then make our way to Glenwood\, New Mexico for a brief stop. From there\, we will hook down and around to Clifton\, Arizona (Hwy 78) and then back up to Alpine\, Arizona (Hwy 191). We will stop for lunch at Michelles Bar & Grill in Morenci. The total distance is about 220 miles of spectacular views\, mountain vistas\, high mountain meadows\, and enough twists\, curves\, and long-fast sweepers through multiple elevation changes to make you and your BMW happy for many months to come! Once we return to Alpine\, you will have the opportunity to recap your extraordinary adventure with other BMW enthusiasts\, over a delicious meal\, at the Foxfire at Alpine restaurant. \nThe New Mexico Chapter will caravan back east together on Sunday morning\, with a stop for lunch at Ella’s Cafe in Reserve.  \nIn addition to securing your lodging reservations\, all participants from both chapters need to register for the event at https://roadrunnerbmw.org/event/devils-highway-2023-10/#. SUMMARY:Borderland BMW Drive to Sunspot and Cloudcroft\, NM
DESCRIPTION:The October 2023 NM BMW CCA Borderland Region First Sunday Meetup will be October 1\, 2023 with a drive through the Sacramento Mountains to Sunspot\, NM for a visit to the NMSU Sunspot Solar Observatory Visitor Center. Following the visit\, we will have lunch at the Cloudcroft Brewing Company in Cloudcroft. We will meet in the Lowe’s parking lot in Alamogordo at 9 am and depart from there on the hour drive to the observatory. \nPlease note that the Sunspot Solar Observatory is located at an elevation of 9200 ft\, so it is a good idea to pace yourself and stay hydrated if you are not accustomed to high elevations. The weather in Sunspot varies with the seasons and temperatures are typically 20-30 degrees cooler than in Alamogordo. DESCRIPTION:Drive 4 Corners 2023 will take place in Pagosa Springs\, Colorado\, August 4 – 6\, 2023. The annual D4C event gathers a group of BMW enthusiasts from the Rocky Mountain region for scenic driving adventures and socializing. This year\, the event is returning to the renovated Pagosa Lodge. A group rate has been negotiated at the hotel. Of course\, you are welcome to stay wherever you prefer and can re-connect with the larger group for any combination of activities. Friday evening\, we will gather at the hotel 3505 W U.S. Hwy 160\, Pagosa Springs\, CO 81147\, around 5:30 pm\, and will be providing food from the hotel owned Papa Johns. \nThere will be a $65 per person fee for the event\, that will cover Friday dinner\, Saturday dinner and giveaways. After our visit to the volcano and ice cave\, we will have lunch at the veteran owned Junkyard on 66 Brewery in Grants. It’s a functioning junkyard and features antique vehicles; auto parts as décor; a truck converted to a bar; a lift; tailgates and hoods for tables; and\, the best part\, in house beers with automotive themed names. After lunch\, there will be an optional trip to the nearby New Mexico Mining Museum.

We will meet at Bode’s Gas and General Store in Abiquiu at 9:00 am. From there\, we will drive almost to Tres Piedras by way of El Rito with a stop at the Ojo Caliente store/gas station\, then on US Hwy 64 over the Brazos Summit to Tierra Amarilla with a brief stop at a scenic overlook.  At Tierra Amarilla we turn northwest to El Vado Lake for lunch at The Dam Diner near El Vado Lake State Park. After lunch\, we will head south to Ghost Ranch for a tour of the paleontology and/or anthropology museums.

Dinner will be at Rebecca’s which is named after the resident ghost of The Lodge at Cloudcroft where we will stay for the night. The number of rooms available are limited\, so call 575-682-2566 to reserve a room soon and tell them you are with the NM BMW Car Club to receive a discount. You must make your reservation at The Lodge before March 25th. \nIf you choose to make this a two-day event\, on Sunday\, April 2nd\, we will walk in the footsteps of Billy the Kid and tour the town of Lincoln\, NM. Then head over to Fort Stanton once commanded by Kit Carson and also where “Black Jack” Pershing was stationed. Lunch will be in Capitan followed by a visit to Smokey Bear Historical Park. Some people may want to visit Valley of Fires on the return on US 380 just west of Carrizozo. \nWe will meet at 8:00 am Saturday in the parking lot of the East Mountain Public Library at 487 NM 333\, Tijeras\, NM for the trip South to Ruidoso. We will stop along the way to visit the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. Be sure to have a full tank of gas. \nBorderland people will meet at the south end of the Lowe’s parking lot 4201 N Scenic Drive in Alamogordo at 11:30am. We will meet up with the rest of the group in Ruidoso. Borderland people interested in a Sunday-only tour should meet in the Alamogordo Lowe’s parking lot at 7:30 am Sunday morning to join up with the rest of the group in Cloudcroft. \nQuestions?
