SUMMARY:2021 Karl Fox Memorial Fall Tour - Gila
DESCRIPTION:Join the New Mexico Chapter of the BMW CCA for an epic overnight Annual Karl Fox Memorial Fall Tour of the Gila in southern New Mexico. We will begin the tour on Saturday\, October 16th in Truth or Consequences and take the southern route of the Geronimo Trail National Scenic Byway through the ghost towns of Hillsboro and Kingston before winding through the Aldo Leopold Wilderness of the Black Range to San Lorenzo and the Mimbres Valley. We will have lunch at Restaurant del Sol before proceeding on the Trail Of The Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway\, the route for the grueling annual Tour of the Gila bicycle race. We will have a scenic visit at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument before proceeding on the byway through Pinos Altos\, a former 1860s gold mining town\, to the historic Murray Hotel in Silver City. (Read “Take the scenic route: Trail of the Mountain Spirits offers a picturesque trek through southwest NM” in the Albuquerque Journal.) \nOn Sunday\, October 17th\, we will head north on US 180 on the west side of the Gila to the Catwalk Recreation Area. From there\, we will continue north on US 180 through Reserve and have lunch at the Eagle Guest Ranch in Datil. We will then proceed east on US 60 to the VLA (Very Large Array) Rest Site for a scenic visit. Continuing east on US 60\, we will drive through Magdalena and end the tour at Socorro’s Historic Plaza. \nWe will meet in the parking lot of the Truth or Consequences Walmart Supercenter\, just off I-25 Exit 79\, at 9:30 with a 10:00 departure time. We have a block of rooms reserved and a special rate of $84 at the Murray Hotel in Silver City – call 575-956-9400 and select option 2\, tell the clerk you’re with the New Mexico BMW CCA.

SUMMARY:Chapter Tour of the Wheels Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join the New Mexico Chapter of the BMW CCA for a tour of the Wheels Museum on Saturday\, September 18\, 2021. The Wheels Museum is located on the site of the historic Santa Fe Railroad Shops in downtown Albuquerque. Built-in 1914\, the Albuquerque shops serviced steam locomotives operating on the Santa Fe Railroad. The Museum is currently housed in what the Santa Fe Railyards once referred to as “The Storehouse”\, a long and narrow structure built in 1914\, in which was kept an enormous inventory of all manner of parts and supplies for the larger maintenance shops and the entire Santa Fe railroad system in general. Their collections embrace the history of the railroads\, the impact of the rail yards on Albuquerque\, as well as automobiles\, horse and wagon\, and other modes of transportation. \nWe will meet at 9:00 am in the Wheels Museum parking lot at 1100 2nd St SW in downtown Albuquerque. The guided tour will begin at 9:30 am. Lunch will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for our first ever BMW CCA New Mexico Chapter  “Garage Day” on Saturday\, August 14\, 2021. It will be hosted by NM BMW CCA Board Member Jim Levandoski who has performed extensive modifications to his 540 and will explain what he has done in detail. He also has a spectacular ’33 Factory Five Racing Hot Rod build in progress that will also be on display. This will be our first of what we hope will be an ongoing series of sessions exploring what excites each of us about these quirky little cars and the people that surround them.  \nWe will meet at 9:00 am at the Sandoval County Rail Runner Station lower lot west of the platform\, just east of Camino del Pueblo on the south side of US 550 in Bernalillo. At 9:30 am\, we will depart for Jim’s house. Lunch will be provided.

There will be lots to see and learn\, plus we will have plenty of pizza! \nThe focus of Thursday’s session will be advances in new BMW technology. The biggest changes going on right now with BMW are not limited to new engines or hybrid and electric technology\, but rather with the way the owner interacts with the vehicle\, and how the vehicle interacts with the dealer and BMW NA. They will have a BMW Genius present some of these new technologies\, explain a little about them\, how they benefit you the owner\, answer questions\, and talk about other advancements coming in the very near future. \nChad will also have a few of the new models in the shop and up on the rack for the club to interact with and get a good look at – he anticipates having at least a Z4\, X7\, M2\, and possibly M8 for this session.
